Dehradun, August 23: The Uttarakhand State Emergency Operation Centre has requested that all district magistrates take precautions in their respective districts due to the probability of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar.
The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority includes the Uttarakhand State Emergency Operation Centre. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has previously predicted severe rainfall in various districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the districts of Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar, and a yellow alert for Haridwar, Tehri, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh.
On Tuesday, a section of the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway-58 between Purusadi in Chamoli district was damaged due to heavy rains in areas of Uttarakhand.
According to the district government, a 250-metre length of highway in Purusadi was destroyed, forcing the local administration to halt vehicle traffic.
Earlier on Sunday, the Badrinath National Highway at Tayya Pul Govindghat was closed owing to a debris pile-up in Chamoli district.
The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway-58 was closed the day before due to a landslip from the mountain in the Totaghati area of Tehri Garhwal district.
According to Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, the landslip that struck the Totaghati area halted vehicular flow on the Badrinath route.
Earlier on Friday, the water level in the Pindar river in the Tharali area of Chamoli district rose as a result of heavy rains in the state.
“There was heavy rain in the area late Monday night, after which the Pranmati river began flowing above the danger mark.” The Pindar river also overflowed as a result of this, according to Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana.
According to the DM, the spike in river water level caused panic among villagers, and several residences and agricultural fields in the vicinity were damaged. On Friday, heavy rains disrupted daily life in Dehradun’s Kaluwala region. Rainwater got into the dwellings, causing major waterlogging.
Previously, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed an aerial reconnaissance of flood-affected districts in the state, as well as an evaluation of the Ganga’s rising water level in Rishikesh.
