On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a plea for people to choose organ donation and stated that his administration is working on a unified policy that would make the process simple and inspire people to engage in the potentially life-saving practise.
In his monthly radio show, “Mann ki Baat,” he stated that those who give their organs after passing away are “godlike” to the receivers and that people’s preference for it may save and make countless lives.
Modi said that the requirement of having a state residence for receiving organs has been abolished to allow the needy to register themselves anywhere in the nation and expressed delight that knowledge about organ donation is growing across the nation.
He said, “A decision has also been made to remove the age restriction of being under 65 years old for organ donation.” According to him, the number of organ donations increased from fewer than 5,000 in 2013 to more than 15,000 in 2022.
He pointed out that one deceased person’s organ donation can benefit eight to nine other people. The prime minister also addressed the loved ones of people whose organs were donated after they passed away. This includes a couple from Amritsar who chose to donate the organs of their deceased daughter who was born with a severe illness and died 39 days later.
Modi lavishly congratulated the family for choosing to donate the dead relatives’ organs. “Great donors like them make us appreciate the value of life,” he remarked. Many needy patients are awaiting an organ donor with the goal of living a long and healthy life. I am quite happy that work is being done on a standard policy throughout the entire nation to make organ donation simple and to encourage it.
In addition, Modi warned that corona cases are on the rise in several areas and urged people to take safety measures. He claimed that the world is praising India’s expanding influence in the renewable energy sector.
He noted that Diu has become the first district in India to use entirely clean energy for all daytime demands, which is a significant feat in and of itself given how quickly India is advancing in the field of solar energy. “In Diu, more power is produced from solar panels than is needed during the day. Approximately 52 crore rupees have also been saved as a result of this solar installation. The usage of renewable energy has greatly benefited the ecology, he added.
The prime minister praised the increased participation of women in a variety of professions and asserted that “woman power” is a significant contributor to India’s developing power in his speech.
He said that by winning an Oscar for their documentary “The Elephant Whisperers,” producers Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves gave honour to the nation. He also praised the contribution of women to the NDRF’s relief and rescue efforts in Turkiye.
India has also sent a women-only platoon to join the UN mission’s peacekeeping force, according to Modi. Announcing that the “Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam” will be conducted in various locations throughout Gujarat from April 17 to 30, he noted the recent celebration of long-standing links between the people of Varanasi and Tamil Nadu, which took place in the holy city through the “Kashi-Tamil Sangamam.”
