Suryakumar at his vintage best

Suryakumar was at his vintage best during the chase of 160 runs, hitting 83 in 44 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. His runs were scored at a strike rate of more than 188.

Surya completed the feat in 49 innings, making him the fastest Indian to do it. West Indies hitter Evin Lewis is the fastest player to reach 100 T20I sixes.

Suryakumar also surpassed Shikhar Dhawan to become India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in T20Is. He has 1,780 runs at an average of 45.64 in 51 T20Is and 49 innings, with three centuries and 14 fifties. His highest possible score is 117. His runs have been scored at a strike rate of more than 174.

Suryakumar is followed by players such as KL Rahul (2,265 runs in 72 matches at an average of 37.75, with two centuries and 22 fifties), skipper Rohit Sharma (3,853 runs in 148 matches at an average of 31.32 and a strike rate of 139.24, with four centuries and 29 fifties), and Virat Kohli (4,008 runs in 115 matches at an average of 52.73, with one century and 37 fifties).

Player of the Match

Suryakumar’s ‘Player of the Match’ award for the match was his 12th in 51 T20Is, tying him with Rohit Sharma for second most in India, trailing only Virat Kohli’s 15.

With this victory, India has taken a 2-1 lead in the series. There are two games left.

India was reduced to 34/2 in the chase of 160 when openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Shubman Gill (6) were bowled cheaply. The innings was then kept together by Suryakumar and Tilak Varma, who helped Men in Blue reach 100 runs. Suryakmar played well, reaching 83 in 44 balls with 10 fours and a six before being removed. Tilak (49* in 37 balls, four boundaries, and a six) and Hardik Pandya (20* in 15 balls) then led India to victory.

Suryakumar was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his fifty.
