Manpreet Kaur, a 22-year-old Punjabi woman from Hamidi village in the Barnala region of Punjab, has been identified as the deceased.

Kaur arrived in Canada on a study visa in August 2022 and has been residing in Toronto while studying at one of Canada’s prestigious universities.
The cause of Kaur’s death is unknown, but media reports claim she died of heart arrest.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s father, Kewal Singh, revealed that the family received the call around 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning and was notified of his daughter’s severe condition. Kaur’s family was informed that she had been vomiting and having respiratory problems, so she was admitted to the hospital and later proclaimed dead.
Notably, Canada is home to the majority of Indians. Several recent incidences of Punjabi youth deaths in Canada have caused widespread concern in India. Parents are either unwilling to send their children abroad or are concerned about their children who are already there.
