After facing legal scrutiny for its decision to dissolve gramme panchayats in Punjab, the government, led by Bhagwant Mann, declared on Thursday that it will revoke the notification.
Punjab Advocate General Vinod Ghai told the Bench led by Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha that the notification would be removed in the next few days.
The administration had previously defended its decision during a hearing in a related case. Among other things, the Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, contended that the notification to dissolve gramme panchayats was in accordance with constitutional provisions.
According to Section 209 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, Gurpreet Singh Khaira, Director, Rural Development and Panchayat, the Punjab Government has the authority to mandate the organisation of elections for Panchayati Raj Institutions.
