Actor wears kirpan in ‘objectionable manner’ in movie scene for ‘Yaariyan 2’; SGPC objects

‘Yaariyan 2’ controversy: Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has sharply denounced a Hindi film sequence in which an actor is depicted wearing a kirpan in a “objectionable manner.”

The scene is from the movie “Yaariyan 2,” whose first song, “Saure Ghar,” was made available on YouTube on Sunday by the creators. The Sikh organisation has objected to certain of the song’s scenes.

Yaariyan 2’s creators received harsh criticism from SGPC for these images on X (formerly known as Twitter). The Sikh organisation published pictures of many scenes in which they said the actor was sporting the Sikh Kakaar (symbol of Sikh faith) Kirpan in a “objectionable manner.”

“We strongly object to the images captured and published in the song “Saure Ghar” from the movie “Yaariyan 2,” which was directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru (@SapruAndRao), since the actor is depicted donning the Sikh Kakaar (symbol of Sikh faith) Kirpan in an unacceptable manner. The religious emotions of the Sikh community around the world have been severely affected by this. According to the Sikh Code of Conduct of Akal Takht Sahib and the right granted by the Indian Constitution, only an initiated Sikh has the right to wear a kirpan.

The tweet reads, “This video song is available on the official @TSeries @YouTube channel; they must remove it immediately. If this video song with the aforementioned offensive scenes is published on another platform, it must likewise be removed. We are promptly voicing this opposition to the government and on internet platforms through all available avenues.

In addition, the SGPC threatened legal action and contacted the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to seek that the video be taken down.

We ask @MIB_India and @GoI_MeitY to make sure that the Censor Board of Film Certification does not approve the distribution of this objectionable video or any other such unacceptable moments from the aforementioned movie. We will begin legal action as required by law if the recordings are not removed from public view for hurting the religious feelings of the minority Sikh population.
