Mizoram railway bridge collapses: In a horrifying and tragic incident, at least seventeen employees were murdered and several others were thought trapped when an under-construction railway bridge collapsed near Sairang in Mizoram.
The event occurred about 10 a.m., roughly 20 kilometres from Aizawl, Mizoram.
According to a police spokesman, some others were afraid of becoming stuck at the scene because 35-40 personnel were present.
Those injured were sent to a local hospital, and senior Northeast Frontier Railway officials would also inspect the scene.

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga rushed to Twitter to express his sympathies to the dead family, writing, “Under construction railway over bridge.”
“This tragedy has deeply saddened and affected me.” I express my heartfelt condolences to all the lost families and wish the injured a fast recovery. “Thank you to everyone who has come out in large numbers to assist with rescue operations,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured, in response to the bridge disaster in Mizoram and to express condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
