Schools closed in Punjab:Punjab has been badly impacted by recent torrential rains, resulting in the loss of lives and substantial damage to infrastructure in numerous sections of the province.
Following heavy rain, the water level in several areas of Punjab surged, creating a flood-like situation.
With the safety and security of children in mind, Punjab Educational Minister Harjot Singh Bains has ordered the closure of all educational institutions in Punjab till August 26, 2023, i.e. Saturday.
The Punjab Government’s directive would apply to all government, recognised, private, and other educational institutions.
“As per the instructions of Bhagwant Maan ji, keeping in mind the floods caused by heavy rains in various districts of Punjab including Himachal Pradesh, the Punjab Government has ordered with immediate effect in all government/aided/recognized and private schools of the state for safety reasons,” Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains wrote on his X handle. Holidays will be observed beginning today (August 23, 2023) and lasting until Saturday, August 26, 2023.”
Meanwhile, in the coming hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Orange Alert’ in various areas of Punjab, including Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

As torrential rain lashed parts of North India, causing waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides, several areas in Punjab have reported loss of life and property, as well as disruptions in transportation and power.
