Punjab: Two youngsters drown in Batala’s Beas

Two kids drowned: After news of the drowning of two children in a river circulated around the community, a mist of sorrow settled on Dhirowal community in Batala.

Two youngsters from Batala’s Dhirowal Village drowned in the Beas River in an unpleasant, tragic, and heartbreaking occurrence.

According to reports, children went to observe the rain drain water at Shri Hargobindpura in Gurdaspur, and due to the quick flow of river water, the children were washed away while playing by the river.

Jaskaran Singh (14), son of Baldev Singh, and Dilpreet Singh (13), son of Hardev Singh, have been identified as the deceased.

When the two children did not return home until late at night, family members began looking for them and notified rescue and administration teams. The bodies of youngsters were recovered during the research operation.

DSP Rajesh Kakkar revealed details about the tragic incident, saying that the remains of youngsters were taken into custody and an inquiry is underway.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal stated that the District Administration has forbidden visitors from entering rivers, canals, and other bodies of water.

He also urged the residents of the district to take care of themselves and to explain to their children that they should not go near the floodwaters.

Notably, various areas in Punjab, including Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Batala, are experiencing flood-like conditions as a result of dam releases.

Several districts in Punjab have been swamped as a result of the release of surplus water from the Bhakra and Pong dams, disturbing the everyday lives of the people of Punjab.

Meanwhile, in Gurdaspur, a joint effort combining Army, BSF, and NDRF soldiers is addressing the floodwaters that are approaching on communities. The deluge has cut off the town’s connectivity, as the Mukerian bridge has been closed to traffic. The overflowing waters have caused substantial damage to the Gurdaspur-Mukerian connecting road.
