New Delhi, August 16: On the anniversary of his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid sincere respects to the late former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Modi emphasised Vajpayee’s pivotal contribution in moving the country into the twenty-first century across a wide range of sectors.
PM Modi addressed his feelings via the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, noting that the whole 1.4 billion residents of India join him in paying tribute to the extraordinary Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi (memorial day). Modi emphasised how Vajpayee’s astute leadership improved India’s progress. He emphasised Vajpayee’s essential role in propelling the country to unparalleled progress and ushering it into the modern era across a wide range of domains.
Vajpayee, who was born in Gwalior in 1924, was the BJP’s prominent face for several decades, carving his name as the first non-Congress Prime Minister to finish a full term in office.
Vajpayee’s tenure as India’s Prime Minister was divided into two parts: the first, from May 16, 1996, to June 1, 1996, and the second, from March 19, 1998, to May 22, 2004. Notably, from 1977 to 1979, he was India’s External Affairs Minister in Prime Minister Moraji Desai’s administration. On August 16, 2018, he died at the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.
Recognising the exemplary legacy of the former Prime Minister and recipient of the Bharat Ratna award, Prime Minister Narendra Modi designated December 25 as Good Governance Day—an annual celebration to honour Vajpayee’s birthday and his dedication to the nation.
