Flood-like situation in Rishikesh: Rishikesh, Uttarakhand’s spiritual town located 24 kilometres upstream from Haridwar, experienced the country’s highest-ever rainfall of 42.00 cm in the last 24 hours on Monday.
The “place of sagas” of Rishikesh experienced a flood-like situation when the Ganga’s water level rose above the danger level following heavy downpours.
In a dramatic update, the water level of the Ganges flowing through Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, fell on Wednesday.
The river Ganga’s water level at Parmarth Niketan Ghat has dropped in the last twenty-four hours.
On Tuesday, the Lord Shiva statue near the Parmarth Niketan Ashram was partially submerged in the river due to torrential rains across the holy town. The Triveni Ghat had also been submerged, according to officials.
According to officials, Rishikesh police barred tourists from visiting Ganga Ghat and rescued 20 individuals stranded in inundated dwellings in Rishikesh’s Ambagh.
Rainfall wreaks havoc in Rishikesh
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also performed an aerial reconnaissance of flood-affected districts in the state, as well as a study of the Ganga river’s rising water level in Rishikesh.
He undertook an airborne assessment of Mohanchatti, a disaster-affected area in Pauri’s Yamkeshwar block.
Following the survey, Chief Minister Dhami stated that various areas have been destroyed in the last 48 hours due to the State’s relentless rains, and that the Kedarnath Yatra had been halted for the next two days.
