The Chandigarh Police Department has issued a traffic advice on Independence Day 2023

Independence Day in Chandigarh: Ahead of the city’s Independence Day celebrations on August 15, Chandigarh Police issued a traffic advice on Saturday to ensure smooth vehicular movement around the city.

According to the notice, general public traffic will be closed from 6:30 a.m. until the activity at the Parade Ground concludes.

The Chandigarh Traffic Police Department has issued a route map so that visitors are not inconvenienced.

These roads stretches will be remain closed in Chandigarh on Independence Day 2023 

  • From Sector 16/17/22/23 roundabout up to Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Sector 22-A on Udyog Path.
  • From the Old District Court in Sector 17 to the Shivalik Hotel at the back of the Parade Ground in Sector 17.
  • Up to Parade Ground from Lyon’s Restaurant Light Point near MC Office Sector 17

Follow these Parking areas in Chandigarh on August 15 

  • Parking lot in Sector 22-B
  • Sector 17 of the Circus Ground
  • Sector 17 parking lot close to Neelam Cinema
  • Sector 17 multi-story parking

Routes for buses

Buses heading to ISBT Sector 17 will be rerouted to ISBT Chownk. Meanwhile, traffic from 17/18 Light Point, Aroma Light Point, Sector 18/19/20/21 chowk, and Cricket Stadium Chowk will be diverted away from ISBT Sector 17 Chowk on Udyog Path for half an hour, from 10.45 AM to 11.30 AM, in order to decongest this area during dispersal. Furthermore, only buses will be permitted to travel on this road during dispersal.

Advisory for security, media persons and invitees  

  • Invitees are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m. at the Parade Ground in Sector 17, Chandigarh.
  • Special invitees/attendees should enter the Parade Ground through Gates Nos. 4, 6, and 7, which are located opposite Sector 22 in Chandigarh.
  • The general public is asked to enter the Parade Ground by Gates Nos. 8, 9, and 10, which are located opposite ISBT Sector 17, Chandigarh.
  • Media are asked to enter the Parade Ground through Gate No. 5, which is located opposite Sector 22 in Chandigarh.
  • All attendees must bring an original photo ID card.
  • All attendees are asked not to bring any unacceptable objects, such as a bag, matchbox, knife, cigarette, weapon, liquor, combustible materials, electrical gadgets, a black flag, banners/posters and so on.
