Dehradun, August 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow signal on Tuesday, anticipating heavy rain in eight districts of the state.
The weather service has issued warnings for heavy rain in the districts of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat. Rainfall is also possible in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar, according to the IMD. Earlier in the day, a piece of the Shri Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple along the Tamsa River collapsed due to the impact of torrential rain that had been falling in Dehradun district since Monday evening.
“A part of the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple near River Tamsa collapsed and caused a lot of damage to the temple property during heavy downpours since the previous night,” claimed the temple’s founder, Acharya Bipin Joshi, on Tuesday.
He went on to say that as soon as the Tamsa river began to take on a menacing shape due to the rains, the temple grounds were fully deserted.
“All the deities of Lord Ganesha Maharaj, Mata Vaishno Devi, Ram Darbar, Hanuman Ji Maharaj, and Lakshmi Narayan Bhagwan were also put to sleep,” he went on to say.
The temple’s structure has sustained damage. However, no human deaths or injuries have been reported, according to him.
The Uttarakhand Police announced on Sunday that three people had died and that the hunt for the missing was still ongoing following a landslip at Gaurikund.
Uttarakhand Director General of Police Ashok acknowledged three deaths and said 20 people were still missing after a large landslip on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Gaurikund.
He went on to say that 17 of the missing people were of Nepali ethnicity. “Nearly 17 of the missing people are Nepali.” “A police and SDRF search operation is underway,” said the DGP.
The search and rescue effort for the missing victims was evaluated by Uttarakhand Secretary Disaster Ranjit Sinha and Commissioner Garhwal Mandal Vinay Shankar Pandey, as well as DM and SP Rudraprayag.
