UP Assembly Session Day 1: Oppn wants to talk about the violence in Manipur

UP Assembly Session Day 1: It appears that the ongoing violence in Manipur would never end, particularly in Parliament.

On the opening day of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly session, there was a commotion and a war of words.
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party and the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, asked and demanded a discussion regarding the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur on the first day of the assembly session.

In a request to the speaker, the Samajwadi Party chief stated, “This is a serious issue given what happened in Manipur.” However, we are unable to introduce a resolution condemning the violence (ninda prastab). Uttar Pradesh is the country’s largest state, and the Prime Minister (as an MP) is from there. Violence in Manipur has been denounced everywhere in the globe. Can we expect the leader of this House to say anything about Manipur?”

When Akhilesh Yadav was addressing on the House floor, the speaker, Satish Mahana, said that the Manipur issue was not part of the House’s agenda.

Earlier, on Monday morning, MLAs from the Opposition Samajwadi Party protested over price increases, crime rates, and reservation for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes outside Uttar Pradesh’s Parliament House.
