The Punjab Police reported the greatest narcotics raid of 2023, seizing 77 kilogrammes of heroin from four individuals suspected of being involved in a trans-border drug smuggling network.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the successful operation was carried out by the Counter Intelligence Wing, Ferozepur, in two separate raids.
During the raids, the police also seized three firearms from the captured smugglers.
DGP Yadav announced the arrests on Twitter, writing, “One of the biggest heroin seizures of 2023: In two separate intelligence-led operations, Counter Intelligence, #Ferozepur has apprehended four drug traffickers and recovered 77Kg heroin (41Kg 36Kg) and three pistols.”
According to the DGP, the detained offenders were actively involved in large-scale trans-border and inter-state drug smuggling activities within Punjab.
In conjunction with the seizures, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act have been recorded in Fazilka as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are pursuing additional investigations in order to determine the entire scope of the drug smuggling network and bring those guilty to justice.
