The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee has filed the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling of the Allahabad High Court, which permitted the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi.
The Masjid Committee’s lawyer requested the Supreme Court not to allow the ASI to conduct the survey, but the court indicated it will “look into the matter.”

The Allahabad High Court dismissed the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee’s petition challenging the ASI assessment of the mosque complex in Varanasi, which is close to Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee had appealed the July 21 judgement of the Varanasi District Judge.
On July 21, Varanasi District Judge AK Vishvesha issued an order for an ASI survey of the Gyanvapi complex based on an application filed by four Hindu ladies on May 16, 2023. The District Judge’s ruling, however, excluded the complex’s Wuzu Khana (ablution pond area), which had been sealed by the Supreme Court’s decree.
