As Himachal recovers from floods, the state’s Principal Secretary for Disaster Management reported an increase in the number of deaths and infrastructure damage.
During the 41 days since the monsoon began, the state disaster management office reported roughly 200 rain-related deaths and 31 missing people in Himachal Pradesh. 57 persons died as a result of landslides and flash floods, while 142 died in traffic accidents during the monsoon season.
The principal secretary of disaster management stated that the number of deaths is rising as the state recovers from the rain and floods. The anticipated cost of rain-related infrastructure damage is 6563.58 crores.
The flash floods damaged 774 homes and partially damaged another 7317. In addition, 254 stores and 2337 cow shelters were destroyed. The state had 79 landslides and 53 flash floods.
In the state, about 300 roads are stopped, and 274 electricity and 42 water supply schemes are still interrupted. Due to heavy rain warnings for the next two days, the state disaster management authorities issued an alert.
Among the natural disasters, the Shimla tourism industry experienced a significant setback when the Kalka-Shimla four-lane National Highway 5 in Solan district was washed away in a landslip. This incident generated concerns for the state capital’s future, with tourists cancelling their excursions due to fears of flash floods and landslides.
