‘Punjab 95’: At the Toronto Film Festival, the Jaswant Singh Khalra biopic starring Diljit Dosanjh will make its debut

The biopic "Punjab 95," starring Diljit Dosanjh, will make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.

The biopic “Punjab 95” about human rights campaigner Jaswant Singh Khalra will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), actor Diljit Dosanjh said in a post on his Instagram account.

The biography on human rights pioneer Jaswant Singh Khalra’s creators, on the other side, have presented a new poster for the movie with the new title “Punjab 95.”

“Ghallughara” was the previous title of the movie. The Censor Board, however, postponed its approval and requested that the title and content be altered.

On Instagram, Diljit Dosanjh said, “Waheguruji ka Khalsa, Waheguruji ki Fateh! Toronto International Film Festival’s world premiere. Introducing Punjab ’95, a gripping narrative based on the life of activist for human rights Jaswant Singh Khalra Ji.

Who was Jaswant Singh Khalra?

In the 1980s and 1990s, during the Punjab insurgency, an Indian human rights activist named Jaswant Singh Khalra dedicated his life to exposing cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial deaths. He was a well-known representative of the “Human Rights Watch” human rights group.

Khalra’s tenacious pursuit of the truth resulted in important findings concerning the Punjab Police’s mass cremations of unidentified dead, highlighting the scope of state-sponsored atrocities during that time.
