Rishabh Pant Injury Update: Delhi Capitals Captain Discards Crutches, Takes Major Step Towards Recovering From Car Crash

Rishabh Pant walked independently in a video he posted on social media last week, marking a key milestone in his rehabilitation from a serious vehicle accident in December 2022. The 25-year-old great wicketkeeper-batter had been needing crutches to help him move while playing for the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 Indian Premier League, but in the video, he flung them away and walked confidently on his own.

Pant has kept his followers up to date on his condition after being discharged from the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai in January. The young batsman was driving to his hometown when his automobile collided with a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun route. He was originally treated at a nearby hospital before being evacuated to Mumbai for further treatment.

Despite making good progress in his recuperation, Pant is projected to miss a large chunk of Indian cricket activity this year, including the ODI World Cup, which is set to be contested in India in October-November. In his absence, India has relied on wicketkeepers KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and KS Bharat for the ODI, T20I, and Test formats, respectively.
Pant has remained a vital component of the Delhi Capitals team despite his injuries, attending matches and training sessions. In his absence, Australian cricketer David Warner has assumed command of the Capitals in the IPL.

Pant’s fans, fellow cricketers, and past colleagues have been rooting for him during his recuperation. After witnessing the footage of Pant walking alone, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya and former Indian bowler Sreesanth left supportive words in the comments section, while Suryakumar Yadav remarked, “Spidey is back! More power to you.”
