According to figures updated on Wednesday by the Union health ministry, India had a one-day spike of 2,151 new coronavirus cases, the largest in five months, while the number of active cases rose to 11,903.
On October 28 of previous year, there were a total of 2,208 instances.
The new fatalities brought the COVID-19 death toll to 5,30,848; three of them were reported by Maharashtra, one by Karnataka, and three by Kerala.
The statistics, which was updated at 8 am, showed that the weekly positivity was 1.53 percent and the daily positivity was 1.51 percent.
